Analytical study of outcome and impact of frontline demonstration on red gram in the district of Hassan.

The linkage between research and extension especially in transferring feedback from farmers to researchers play a significant role. KVK, Hassan has initiated frontline demonstrations on improved varieties of redgram viz. BRG-1 and TTB-7 covering 198 farmers and 50 ha area. Ensuing the results of frontline demonstrations the average percentage increase in yield was up to 47.32 compared to farmer's local check. As an outcome, KVK has refined the technology and suggested growing redgram as an intercrop with potato in 6:1 ratio which would reduce the bacterial wilt disease incidence caused by Ralstonia solanacearum in potato. Looking into the success and reach, the road for KVK in the future is to organize farmers into producer and commodity groups to increase market access and also to teach farmers how to diversity their farming systems focusing on market-driven extension approaches.
