Length-weight relationship and condition factor in Gudusia chapra (ham.-buch.) and Botia dario (ham.-buch.) from chatla haor (flood plain wetland) in cachar district of assam

The Length-Weight (L-W) relationship and condition factor (K) in Gudusia chapra (Hamilton-Buchanan) and Botia dario (Hamilton-Buchanan) were worked out on samples collected from Chatla haor, a seasonal flood plain wetland (24deg5min N to 92deg45min E) situated in the Cachar district (24deg10min N to 93deg 15min E) of Assam. The value of exponent n in the equation W=cL~n were 3.0798 and 3.0672 for G.chapra and B.dario respectively. The computed t values indicated that n values of the two species are not significantly different from the expected value 3 and hence the cube law W=cL~n holds good in both the species. The value of correlation coefficient (r) in G.chapra and B.dario were 0.9537113 and 0.9042214 respectively which are closer to lindicating that there is high positive correlation between length and weight in both the species. The computed vilues of Fulton's condition factor (K) remained greater than 1 in both the species indicating their general well-being to be good in this wetland.
