A pot culture experiment was conducted g to study the effects of potassium (K) application, soil t potassium status and their interaction (in two treat- ] ments: 0 and 50 kg K,0 ha~(-1dry matter yield of : maize (Zea mays L.). Out of 18 locations, soil samples from six locations were in the category of low available potassium content (< 150kg K.Oha '). Six were from medium available potassium content (150—250 kg K20 ha~(-1) and six in high available potassium content (> 250 kg K,0 ha~(-1). Potassium application to maize significantly increased the dry matter yield at tasseling stages in all the locations of different soil potassium status viz low, medium and high. It was significantly higher at 75 kg K,0 ha-1 (123.63 g por1) in low potassium status soil followed by medium (105.30 g por') and high (83.12 g pot"1) potassium status soil. The highest dry matter yield was observed in potassium (0 and 75 kg ha) x low potassium category x location No. 6 (131.29 and 150.18 g por1) followed bypotassium (0 and 75 kg ha ')xmedium potassium categoryxlocation No. 6 (95.14 and 126.82g pot"1) and potassium (0 and 75 kg ha1) x high potassium categoryxlocation No. 6 (81.79 and 89.97 g pot'). However, the interactions between potassium and category (low, medium and high soil available potassium) were found statistically non-significanttor dry matter yield of maize.
