Standardization of Inoculation Technique for Artificial Creation of False Smut of Rice Caused by Ustilagi-noidea virens Pot Culture Studies

摘要

The effect of each inoculation method was studied with spore suspension of Ustilaginoidea virens causing false smut disease of rice. Among various inoculation methods adopted at different stages employing NLR-34449 rice variety with conidial suspension (30xl04 spores ml"1 ) of Ustilaginoidea virens showed that booting and late booting stage was ideal for infection with maximum smut balls followed by inoculation at flowering stage (13.3, 12 and 7.33 smut balls/panicle respectively). Inoculation done at panicle initiation stage did not produce any symptoms of disease. Similarly, the seeds treated with chlamydospores and soil application of pseudomorphs failed to produce symptoms.
