摘要

The fertilizing ability of cocks of selected and control strains of White Leghorn was investigated. The cocks were categorized into good, medium and poor based on their fertilizing ability predicted by iodonitrotetrazolium dye reduction test. The mean fertilizing ability of good, medium and poor cocks were 28.03, 17.43 and 10.16 nmoles/minute/109 spermatozoa, for selected strains and 25.01, 16.43 and 7.70, for control strains, respectively. Significant differences were observed with respect to predicted fertilizing ability, concentration of spermatozoa, total sperm per ejaculate and concentration of live spermatozoa. Thus, long-term selection for part period egg production resulted in more number of "good" category cocks and improvement of fertilizing ability.
