Field experiments were conducted in Punjab, India, from 1996-97 to 1998-99 to test the efficiency of herbicides metribuzin and atrazine, alone or in combination with isoproturon, in controlling P. minor on wheat cv. PBW343. Metribuzin was applied at0.088, 0.131, 0.175 and 0.263 kg/ha, alone or in combination (except at 0.263 kg/ha) with isoproturon at 0.94 kg/ha. Atrazine at 0.063, 0.125 and 0.188 kg/ha alone or in combination with isoproturon at 0.94 kg/ha. All herbicide treatments provided goodcontrol of the weeds. The wheat crop can tolerate metribuzin only up to 0.131 kg/ha and atrazine up to 0.188 kg/ha when applied alone or in combination with isoproturon at 0.94 kg/ha, but these herbicides are phytotoxic to the plants at higher concentrations.
