A field experiment was conducted during kharif seasons of 2010 and 2011 in thrice replicated randomized block design, with ten treatments to evaluate the intercropping of pearlmillet (Pennisetum glaucum) in dhaincha (Sesbania aculeata) grown for seed.Among intercropping systems in spite of 11.6% reduction in Sesbania seed yield over sole crop at 45 cm spacing, the highest Sesbania seed yield (924 kg/ha) along with an additional pearl millet yield of 743 kg/ha was obtained with 1:1 row ratio of Sesbania and pearlmillet at 45 cm spacing. The intercropping system of two rows of pearl millet intercropped in Sesbania sown at 120 cm spacing was found best not only for pearlmillet yield and yield attributes but also for maximum land equivalent ratio (1.38), highest Sesbania (1,379 kg/ha) equivalent yield, highest net return of Rs 10,768/haand maximumB:C of 1.39.
