摘要

Sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus L.) is ubiquitous in Britain (Preston, Pearman & Dines, 2002) but it is an introduced tree both there, in Africa, Australia and North America. There is no agreement on when it was introduced to Britain. More & White (2003) suggest AD1200, but state that it occurred in Wales prior to this, According to Leathart (1977), Sycamore was introduced in Roman times, whilst Miles (1999) suggested introduction prior to AD1500 and, on the basis of carvings on Christchurch Cathedral, Oxford, prior to AD1289.
