A NEW SPECIES OF FUNGUS BREEDING TRIPHLEBA RONDANI (DIPT., PHORIDAE) FROM MALAYSIA, INCLUDING AN INTRIGUING MUTANT

Almost 100 species of Triphleba Rondani have been described, most being from the Nearctic and Palaearctic Regions. A few are known from the Australasian Region. The only species reported from the Oriental Region are five species from Burma (Beyer, 1958) and a species from the Sichuan Province of China (Liu, 2001), close to where the Palaearctic and Oriental Regions merge. Four of Beyer's species and Liu's species are only known from males. One of Beyer's species is only known from females, and it isprobably just the opposite sex of one of his other species. In this paper we report a species from Malaysia that was reared from a fungus by JS. It was passed to RHLD for slide mounting and identification. It proved to be a new species that is describedbelow.
