Do you remember the movie Waterworld? Perhaps not, because it was not a blockbuster hit when it was released in 1995. However, if re-released today, the Kevin Costner-lead movie would likely generate considerable discussion. The IMDb.com website description of the movie explains why: "In a future where the polar ice-caps have melted and Earth is almost entirely submerged, a mutated mariner fights starvation and outlaw smokers,' and reluctantly helps a woman and a young girl try to find dry land" (IMDb, N.d.). Ignoring the mutated mariner and "smokers," the setting of this film, on the open water that covers the earth after the polar ice caps have melted, has considerably more meaning today than it did in 1995.
