THE GENUS CROSSOTARSINULUS SCHEDL (COLEOPTERA: PLATYPODIDAE)

Strohmeyer (1913) described the species Crossotarsus satiteri from a male and two females collected by H. Sauter in Taiwan (then Formosa). A good coloured figure of the female was provided in Strohmeyer (1914). No further specimens have been recordedunder this name, although it was included in lists of the Platypodidae of Taiwan (Murayama, 1925b; Nobuchi, 1967). Schedl (1972) erected a new monotypic genus, Crossotarsinulus, for the species, based on characters of the pronotum and elytra, and amplified Strohmeyer's brief descriptions of the two sexes. Wood (1993) excluded this genus from his revision of Platypodidae because he had not seen specimens, although he noted that it might become necessary to add it to the genus Crossotarsus Chapuis.
