Orthopterans were captured by flight-interception traps in crowns of each five spruce and larch trees (10 m, 18.5 m, 25 m trap height) of two Upper Bavarian forest areas (near Freising and Landshut) from April till October 2008. In total, 52 individuals were sampled, comprising 14 Dermaptera, 33 Blattoptera and five Ensifera. The most common species were Ectobius sylvestris (Poda, 1761), and Chelidurella guentheri Galvagni, 1994, whereas Meconema thalassinum (De Geer, 1773) and Pholidoptera griseoaptera (De Geer, 1773) were rarely found. With a new species of Ectobius a hitherto undescribed cockroach species from the E. erythronotus-group was recorded for the first time in Germany and its habitat briefly described. The distribution of specimens of all species was equal on spruce and larch, but within trees half of the individuals occurred in the crown tips. Only about 25% of the individuals captured were able to fly, whereas the majority, most of them juveniles, was not.
