Two new species of clear-wing moths from Afghanistan are described in this paper. Each species was collected in moderate numbers by Axel Hofmann in July 2007. Bembecia magnifica sp.nov. was found in the vicinity of Kurbitab, Panjshir Province. This species is rather large and exhibits a remarkable dimorphism with a yellow and a conspicuous orange-red form. Bembecia afghana sp. nov., a medium sized species, was also collected near Kurbitab as well as in the vicinity of the Band-i Amir lakes and south-west of Panjao, Bamiyan Province. A list of all Sesiidae known to occur in Afghanistan is presented and notes on their distribution and bionomics are given. Additionally, species so far recorded from neighboring countries only and likely to occur in Afghanistan are mentioned.
