Afronaumannia gen. nov., a new monophyletic group of leaf beetles from Africa (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae, Galerucinae)

In an ongoing revision of afrotropcial Galerucinae, Monolepta nigrocincta JACOBY, 1900 could be found as very different in some external, and many genitalic characters from the south African type species of Monolepta, Monolepta bio-culata Fabricius, 1781. Monolepta nigrocincta with its junior synonym Monolepta circumdata Laboissiere, 1931, syn. nov., where a lectotype is designated, is transferred as type species to a new genus Afronaumannia gen. nov. and is redescribed. Further four species are newly described: Afronaumannia ire-nae sp. nov, A. josephinae sp. nov, A. pallida sp. nov. and A. rubra sp. nov. External and genitalic characters of all species are figured, photographs of the primary types including all labels, an identification key, and distribution maps are provided. The five yet known species of Afronaumannia gen. nov. are restricted to Guineo-Congolian forests and adjacent wet savannas in West and Central Africa.
