Two Waste Management Measures Enforced From September 2006

Two new environmental policies were enforced on 1 September 2006: a restriction on mercury batteries and a ban on use of disposable dishware in school cafeterias. During inspections conducted in the first week, the EPA inspected 3,207 businesses of which 33 were found violating the restriction on mercury batteries. Out of 620 school cafeterias inspected, only two schools had not yet completely banned the use of disposable dishware, for a compliance rate of 99.7 percent.
