Environmental Management Strategies and Compliance at Marine Corps Installations

Compliance with federal, state and local environmental regulations on military installations is challenging. The complexity of regulations, the variety of mission-essential combat training operations impacting the environment, the constant turnover ofpersonnel, and the demands of the public, force environmental professionals and installation commanders to focus limited resources on activities having the greatest potential to ensure continued environmental compliance. One of those activities is believed to be environmental management. This study examined overall environmental compliance at Marine Corps (USMC) installations over time and the components of environmental management strategies that led to improved compliance with environmental laws andregulations.
