Engineering bodies criticise government plans for vocational education reform

Engineering bodies have largely been critical of the government's latest white paper on education for 14- to 19-year-olds, which was designed to raise the profile and the standing of vocational education, as opposed to academic routes to qualification. The government decided not to end the distinction between vocational and academic routes through a new over-arching qualification, as had been recommended by its own inquiry, led by the former Chief Inspector of Schools Sir Mike Tomlinson.
