Discussion on 'Prediction of shear strength parameters of soils using artificial neural networks and multivariate regression methods'

The discussers would like to express their thanks to the authors for investigating the capability of ANNs for the prediction of the shear strength parameters (C and cp) of soils. This discussion paper presents important viewpoints which the authors and potential researchers need to consider them. The discussion focuses on the following main debatable points: (1) reliability (2) robustness, and 3) derivation, justification and transparency of the ANN models proposed by Khanlari et al. (2012).
