Carnegie Mellon University and University Missouri-Rolla Awarded FeMET Initiative's Design Grants

The AIST Foundation and the American Iron and Steel Institute's (AISI) "Ferrous Metallurgy Education Today," or FeMET Initiative, has awarded two design grants for 2006. Materials science engineering students and professors from Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Missouri-Rolla have been granted 47,500 dollars each for their efforts in addressing the theme, "Comparative Life Cycle Greenhouse Gas Assessments of Steel Products." Their proposals included exposure to important problems in the steel industry, as well as learning various technical and economic aspects in creating a solution.
