Regardless of the industry, the health and safety of personnel and visitors should always be a high priority. This is especially true in industries such as steel manufacturing, where accidents can occur that jeopardize personnel health and safety. When these unfortunate incidents do happen, the results are often severe and can even result in fatalities. Statistics show that the steel manufacturing industry has been and still is one of the most dangerous working environments today, for reasons including operating dangerous machinery and equipment, heavy and fast-moving material handling equipment, high heat and explosive areas, high working elevations, and more. In 2008, seven fatalities occurred within this industry in the United States. In addition, for every 100 full-time workers, 4.7 reported job-related injuries.
