Application of Sol-Gel-Bonded Pumpables During Short Shutdown, to Replenish and Renew Refractory Linings in Lieu of Conventional Relining

The high cost and extended downtime required for conventional blast furnace relining can often exceed US$150 million or more. This paper describes how sol-gel-bonded, pumpable working linings can provide significantly reduced installation time, enable reduced downtime and provide the ability to postpone conventional relining.
