Control of Ca-Containing Inclusions in Al-Killed Steel Grades

This paper describes an inclusion analysis methodology for diagnosing the conditions that promote clogging and erosion of the caster pouring systems due to Ca-bearing inclusions. Practices have been implemented to improve the ability of calcium treatment to produce acceptable inclusion modification. New insights into the formation of Ca-bearing inclusions due to slag-metal reactions with lime-rich ladle slags are also discussed.
