Praxair's CoJet~R Gas Injection System-Delivering Benefits and Gaining Useful Knowledge for Future Enhancements

The introduction of Praxair's CoJet~R gas injection technology several years ago was a significant step in effectively injecting chemical energy into electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmaking. This breakthrough technology was the first to introduce the concept of fixed wall-mounted injectors, with each injector designed to perform multiple functions such as burner, lancing, post combustion, and carbon injection. With the installation for the CoJet injector in September 1996, MACSTEEL -Arkansas became the first electric furnace in the world to operate with fixed multifunctional sidewall injectors. Today, steelmakers have widely accepted this concept, as it has enhanced their efforts to lower costs, improve productivity, and in general, optimize their melting process. Indeed, the industry has shifted to this new standard for chemical energy input in EAFs.
