Escalating scrap price & solid demand boost up global flat & long markets

Driven by strong demand and tight supply, steel flat and long products-markets have been reporting obvious buoyancy in major geographies across the globe over the last few months. Price increases for Carbon-steel products in March met with mixed success, with flat-rolled prices logging an impressive rise while those of plate remained steady. As per announcement made in the beginning of the new calendar, Nucor increased prices on hot-rolled sheet and plate products by 20 dollars per tonne. Success of flat-rolled increase reached greater heights being supported by other producers too. On the other hand, slow inventory correction added to the woes of plate price increase. But global metal analysts envisage that such market condition would improve to a substantial level in the second quarter, as conditions for price hike would then be more favourable.
