Last decade Indian steel industry took a giant leap forward in terms of technology upgradation with all the major steel producers spending a considerable chunk of their budget in this respect. As a result, a number of new entrants in the field have made the steel automation industry very competitive. But ABB is all set to cope up with the stringent competition in the Indian market, says Biplab Majumdar, Senior Vice President and head of automation technologies division, while talking to Santosh Mahanti, our editor & Managing Director. Santosh Mahanti: As a provider of automation services to the steel industry, how do you rate the Indian steel market as far as adoption of new technology is concerned? Biplab Majumdar: ABB is a global leader in automation technologies for the iron and steel industry. In the last decade, the Indian steel industry took a giant leap forward in technology upgradation. Needless to mention, Data Steel led the pack and still remains the forerunner in implementing state-of-the-art technology for steel manufacture.
