2013-a healthy year for UK renewables retail investment

Renewable energy in the UK enjoyed a boost from 'retail' investors in 2013, with f1.3bn invested in UK clean energy infrastructure-according to figures from renewables crowd investing platforms Trillion Fund and Scene Consulting. According to the numbers, a record ￡1bn was raised through UK stock market initial public offerings (IPOs) by renewable energy investment companies (both institutional and private investors). A subset of community funded schemes followed the trend of increased investment over recent years, with around ￡7mn raised through share offers in such schemes in 2013. Many smaller investors enjoyed returns of 5-9%, according to Trillion Fund.
