In years past, it was common to see manufacturing and processing facilities evaluate radio frequency identification (RFID) technologies for asset and material tracking type applications. However, traditional methodologies and RFID implementations were not proven to be reliable solutions for the manufacturing industry. Reasons for this include but are not limited to: metallic environments unfriendly to RFID, very harsh environments, high solution costs (hardware and software) and a solution investment that has outweighed return on investment (ROI).
