To me, components of innovation include creativity, implementation and gain or purpose achieved. This innovation in the field of refractories was basically triggered by the technological and economic demands for the user industries (Metallurgical Coke Manufacturers) on one side and development /applications motive on the other side. Steel Industry in India showed growth to the tune of 3 percent in 2009, along with this, growth in Foundries, Chemicals (Soda ash, other chemical), Ferro-Alloy industries, Zinc etc., necessitated India to import constantly a large quantum of low ash metallurgical coking coal, which needs to be given a serious thought to make its continuous availability with optimum price and uninterrupted operations of coke oven plants.
