The production of clean steel with minimum specific consumption of refractory has become the main goal of steel makers and refractory manufacturers. Consumption of slide gate plate plays very important role to achieve the same. Life of SG plates is mainly guided by its safety factor which is mostly dependent on the type of slide gate mechanism. New generation SG mechanism - TN series has been developed to get higher multiple lives of plats. High emphasis has been given on safety factor while developing the mechanism. This was tried a full ladle campaign at an integrated steel plant in India and excellent service performance was observed.
