Development of refractory castables and intallation techniques for main troughs of Blast Furnaces

As a consequence of the increase of hot metal production since 2002, a strong demand on cast houses availability has become one of the most relevant topics to be considered. Needless to say, refractories have a very important role in this scenery. Therefore, new sources of raw materials and additives were studied and major advances with different kinds of castables have been achieved. As for installation techniques, changes with the castable itself have been carried out, and shotcreting has become one of the most important tools, reducing the time out of cast houses.
