SMS Demag equips Baosteel with stainless slab caster

SMS Demag AG, Germany, has commissioned a single strand continuous slab caster for the Chinese Baosteel Group Shanghai No.1 Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. Yet again, a caster of SMS Demag has thus gone into operation. As the leader of a consortium, SMS Demag provided the engineering, core components, the automation concept and the supervision of erection and commissioning. The caster produces slabs in the thicknesses 180 and 200 mm and in widths from 750 to 1,600 mm and it was put into operation three months earlier than planned. The annual capacity of the entire steelworks is 720,000 tonnes.
