Siemens to supply automation systems and electrical equipment for an integrated stainless steel production line in Finland

The Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services Group (I&S) has received an order from AvestaPolarit Oyj Abp of Espoo, Finland to equip a new stainless steel production line at the Tornio Steelworks in Finland with modern automation Systems and electrical equipment. Included in the order are all the basic automation and process control together with all the electrical equipment for a new type of combination cold-rolling, annealing and pickling line for producing hot-roiled and cold-rolled stainless steel. The order is worth over 40 million euros and commissioning is scheduled for the summer of 200. Within the framework of a plan to increase its production capacity for stainless steel, Avesta Polarit is planning to double output from its Tomb Mill in the north of Finland. This particular cold-rolling mill is to be one of the focal points of the investment programme. The decision to go for a combination rolling, annealing and pickling line means that all steps of the process of producing high-quality, cold-strip stainless steel will be combined in a single installation.
