The integrated Austrian steel producer Voest-Alpine Stahl Linz produces a total of 3.7 million tonnes of high quality steel per annum for die automotive and household appliance industries. Approximately 3.2 million tonnes of hot metal are supplied to the steel works each year from efficiently operating blast furnaces comprised of two operating small-sized units (BF-5, BF-6 or BF-4-one furnace in standby condition) at 1,850 tonnes per day hot metal each and a medium-sized blast furnace (BF-A at 5,500 tonnes per day hot metal). BF-A has a nominal rapacity 5,500 tonnes per day Table 1 and currently produces more than 5,800 tonnes per day or 65 per cent of the total hot metal output in Linz.
