摘要

Stress waves accompany metal to metal impacting, fatigue cracking, abrasive wear and other defects encountered with rotating machinery faults. These stress waves are short-term transient events. The important features to capture for faultdiagnostics are the magnitude of the events and rate of occurrence.Examples are cited where stress waves are determined by: separation from normal vibrations through the use of high-pass filters; capturing magnitude through recording peak values over repeated continuous small time increments (PeakVue methodology); andidentifying periodicity through spectral analysis.PeakVue technology is shown to significantly improve an analyst's capability to detect and classify severity of bearing and gearing defects commonly experienced in the steel industry.
