SMS Demag AG, Germany, as the leader of a consortium with LOI Thermprocess and Siemens, have received from Handan Iron & Steel Group Col, Ltd., PR China, an order for the extension of the single-strand CSP plant that went into operation at the end of 1999. for this order, the consortium is supplying a second casting machine, a pendulum shear, a roller-hearth furnace with a swivelling transfer car, the sixth mill stand, the second coiler and the electrical equipment and automation systems. Following extension, the capacity of the plant will have doubled from 1.25 million tonnes to approx.2.5 million tonnes of hot strip each year. It will also be possible to produce strips with a final thickness of 1.0 mm. Around 20 per cent of the strip production will be manufactured from peritectic grades. It is intended to commission the new facilities in Autumn 2002.
