MECON-Its Role in Development of Steel Industry and Self-Reliance

Metallurgical & Engineering consultants (India) Limited.(MECON), had its origins in 1959 as the Central Engineering and Design Bureau (CEDE) for inhouse consultancy and engineering for Industan Steel Limited (HSL), a bolding company for first three integrated stet:" plants in Public Sector, namely Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) & Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP). MECON went through different phases of development, before it became an i impendent company under the Ministry of Steel in 1978.
