Baosteel to build China's most modern heavy-plate mill

Baoshan Iron & Steel Group Co., Ltd (Baosteel) in Shanghai, China, will be putting up a 5-m heavy-plate mill in the country valuing around Euro 180m.. It has placed an order with international consortium under the leadership of SMS Demag AG. The plant comprises a heavy-plate rolling mill as well as various finishing facilities and will have an annual capacity of 1.4 million tons in the first construction stage. It is scheduled to go on stream in April of 2005. The consortium partners of SMS Demag AG, who will supply the engineering and the main mechanical-equipment components, are Kawasaki Steel Corp., Japan, for the production technology and quality assurance as well as Siemens AG for the electrical equipment and automation .the automation packages for profile and flatness control with CVC PLUS technology, the accelerated-cooling equipment and the two levelers are part of SMS Demag AG's supply extent. This plant will provide Baosteel with the largest and most modern mill of this type in China.
