Roll grinding needs for roll manufacturers are very different from grinding needs in the rolling mills. For instance, roll manufacturers must grind roll necks and shoulders as well as the roll table. For this reason, Pomini has designed new machines dedicated to roll manufacturers, addressing the critical aspects for such applications. This presentation describes some specific characteristics of the Pomini grinding machines dedicated to roll manufacturers, firstly mentioning their design history, from the customer's true requirements to the detail design, with the use of advanced engineering tools and methods. Moreover, a detailed description of the innovations in the automation performances and in the operator procedures is included in the paper, as well as maintenance solutions.
