摘要

European Directives on freeing up EU markets for gas and electricity came into force in 2003 and 2004,yet progress towards truly liberalised markets has been disappointingly slow.Theoretically industrial consumers have been able to choose their suppliers since then, but the situation on the ground is very different British consumers claim that foot-dragging and protectionism by several governments in Europe have been part of the cause of high and rising gas prices here.
