London Array begins to export power

The first power generated from the London Array offshore wind farm, located in the Thames Estuary and set to be the largest offshore wind farm in the world, is being fed into the national grid. According to the project developers, London Array, the first 630 MW phase of the wind farm - which went under construction in March 2011 - is on track to be completed by the end of the year, in keeping with the original schedule. Energy World went to visit the wind farm via helicopter when 151 of the total 175 Siemens 3.6 MW turbines planned for the first phase had been installed. A single turbine was spinning on the day of the visit, with two more capable of delivering power and more coming online by the day.
