Physicians and their patients sometimes feel like the unwitting objects of health care reformers as well as those intent on the law's repeal. The modern Tea Party political movement lays exclusive claim to the legacy of the Founders, in turn using their spin to advance a modern political agenda. It is useful to pause and reflect on the true legacy of our physician forebears, their personalities, and their foundational contributions to medicine and to the fledgling United States.
