By investigating the theoiy of special relativity it is concluded that there exists an absolutely defined way for a slight and continuous increase of the charges and the rest masses of the particles, which is compatible with Maxwell's laws and the conservation laws of physics, and which is the object of the theory of the self-variations If the process of the self-variations indeed manifests itself in reality, then its appearance can provide sufficient explanations for a variety of cosmologicaj phenomena, as being recorded in the cosmological data. The cosmological model predicted by the theory of self-variations differs from the known cosmological models in many substantial aspects. The cosmological redshift z of the spectrum of the distant astronomical objects, which obeys an original equation derived from the model, is obtained in a static and ffat Universe. Among the predictions of this model, the slight increase of the values of z and of the fine-structure constant with the passage of time, the possibility of violation of the GZK limit, the cosmic microwave background radiation, and astronomical objects having characteristics similar to these of the quasars can be mentioned. A process for the formation of the galaxies is proposed, which predicts and explains the appearance of the intergalactic void and the observed increased enhancement of He, whereas it derives correctly the order of size of the dimensions of the galaxies The dark matter is predicted to be composed out of populations of particles having smaller masses than the corresponding one of the atom of hydrogen During the formation of the Galaxy ordinary matter is concentrated within its center, whereas the particles of dark matter are distributed on the fringes of the Galaxy, with the lighter particles being positioned on the outer layer. Another immediate consequence of the theory of self-variations is the prediction of large amounts of negative energy in the Universe. Lastly, it can be mentioned that the primordial form of the Universe does not differ substantially from the state of the vacuum, being at a temperature of OK.
