Nanosized TiO_2 rutile with high capacity and excellent rate capability

TiO_2 rutile has attracted great interest since the successful intercalation at room temperature was reported using nanosized materials. Typically, the potential window of the rutile system is 1-3 V but the use of enlarged potential windows 0.5-3 V and 0.1-3 V leads to an excellent reversible capacity of ～315 mAh g-1. This is comparable to graphite anodes but, in addition, the TiO_2 rutile anode has a high rate capacity of ～196 mAh g-1 at 5C. The capacity retention after 1000 cycles is excellent, demonstrating the good cycling stability.
