Rosneft Inks Third Arctic Partnership

Norway's Statoil has become the third foreign firm to ink a cooperation agreement with Rosneft offshore Russia, with the two firms agreeing May 5 to jointly explore the Perseevsky license block in the Barents Sea and the Magadan 1, Lisyansky and Kashevarovsky blocks in the Sea of Okhotsk (EIF May2' 12). No resource information is available on the Barents Sea block but the Sea of Okhotsk acreage is estimated to hold prospective recoverable resources of some 2 billion metric tons of oil and 1.8 Tcm of gas.
