Brazil's National Petroleum Agency (ANP) has paved the way for UK major BP to farm into four deepwater concessions operated by state Petrobras. Specifically, BP will take a 40% interest in each of the blocks — BM-BAR-3 and BM-BAR-5 in the Barreirinhas Basin, and BM-CE-1 and BM-CE-2 in the Ceara Basin — covering around 2,113 sq km in the Brazilian equatorial margin. Over the past year, BP has acquired 10 upstream blocks in Brazil from US independent Devon Energy, increased its investments in biofuels and expanded its aviation business in Brazil. Following the farm-in, BP will operate six blocks in Brazil with minority stakes in a further eight tracts.
