Electrochromic Properties of ZnO Thin Films Prepared by Pulsed Laser Deposition

Thin solid ZnO films were prepared on indium-tinoxide coated glass substrates by reactive laser deposition in anoxygen ambient. The nanocrystalline and high quality c-axisoriented ZnO films were characterized by X-ray diffraction andatomic force microscopy. Cyclic voltammetry and in situ visiblespectroelectrochemical measurements revealed that the thin filmelectrode is stable during cycling with a charge capacity of 5.6mC/cm2, and the efficiency of coloration ranges from 16 to 27cm2/C in the visible region. Our results show that ZnO thin filmsmay be a new and cheap electrode material for electrochromic devices.
