Apache is on a major buying spree this year. Last week's $7 billion purchase of BP assets in the US, Canada and Egypt marked the third major purchase in just four months for the Houston-based independent, which is known for its acquire-and-exploit strategy."Including the BP deal, Apache will have completed $12 billion in acquisitions in 2010, a number which swamps its historical acquisition activity, the largest of which was the purchase of $2.16 billion in properties in 2006," Fitch Ratings has noted.
