Ebola Takes Toll on Junior Minnows in West Africa

The collateral damage caused by the worst-ever outbreak of the Ebola virus has reached the oil sector, freezing activity in the three worst affected West African countries - Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone - and encouraging companies to exercise extra caution in neighboring states. Exploration on the West African Transform Margin (WATM) was already waning for lack of large discoveries in recent years, but 2014 started out looking more promising, with Exxon Mobil, Chevron and Anadarko all planning new exploration. With the official death toll from Ebola now over 3,000 and suspected of being far higher, those plans are now on hold.
