Eni Chooses London As Trading Base

London is fighting off fierce competition from Geneva to remain the world's premier location for traders in physical energy commodities. Recently, Russian-UK joint venture TNK-BP decided to set up shop in the Swiss city, joining Gunvor and Mercuria there. But not everyone is heading for the Alps. Russia's Gazprom, for example, has opted instead for London, while Italy's Eni is moving the headquarters of its trading and shipping arm there as part of an expansion and consolidation program, eschewing the lure of Geneva's lower personal taxes and lighter regulation.
