摘要

Eroding oil revenues and rising defense expenditure from its drawn-out military campaign in Yemen are beginning to take their toll on Saudi Arabia, the world's top oil-exporting nation and the Middle East's biggest economy. Long-standing Finance Minister Ibrahim al-Assaf earlier this week announced that the oil-rich kingdom would cut spending and issue more debt to counter a widening budget deficit of historic proportions. Al-Assaf didn't provide any details on the scale of the cuts but insisted that key spending on education, health and infrastructure wouldn't be affected.
